The Penile Inversion Vaginoplasty: From the Functional to The Desired

In transgender women, the vaginoplasty is usually the last operative procedure in the physical transition from male to female. During the vaginoplasty the male genital is removed, a cavity is made and a female genital is created. The surgical procedure aims to create a vagina and female genital which meets the patients’ expectations with regard to the cosmetic as well as the functional results. The gold standard technique for vaginoplasty in transgender women is the penile inversion vaginoplasty. This technique has multiple variations, and to date the advantages or disadvantages of each variation are unclear. In this thesis we have assessed surgical outcomes as well as outcomes reported by the transgender women. We have also tried to identify patient-related as well as medical factors which would warrant pre- as well as postoperative attention.
